Why is my property smelling of Damp?

Damp smells happen for a reason. When a property is left unoccupied for a prolonged period of time or in the aftermath of a leak, then mould, mildew and moisture accumulate in the property and you will end up smelling it probably before you physically see the damp.

The smell is rather unpleasant and can even be embarrassing when people visit the property and it really is the elephant in the room. It needs to and can be dealt with quickly and efficiently. Damp odours themselves can also be unsafe as the smell is a reminder that there are potential airborne pathogens coming from somewhere. In many cases, stains on a wall or ceiling can indicate a broken pipe or leaking roof.

If the point comes where you can smell a damp odour then you can be sure that there’s water ingress going on somewhere. Once you call us out to look at the problem, the first thing that we are going to do is to locate the source of the leak (unless of course you’ve already fixed it). We use specialist water detection methods such as thermal imaging equipment, damp meters and other methods to identify the issue so that it can be resolved.

Damp Odour Removal (Mould Removal)

Once we know that the source of the damp smell has been dealt with then we can move on to damp neutralisation. It may be that the property or areas of the property need to be thoroughly dried out before neutralising the damp odour but as each case is different, we’ll keep you abreast of the situation every step of the way.

Mould can start to grow extremely quickly. Given the right conditions such as warmth and high humidity it can grow within as little as 8 hours and can colonise within around 12 days. Mould growth needs to be stopped in it’s tracks as simply masking the smell won’t solve the problem. We offer a full mould remediation service as well as professionally removing damp odours.
